Chapel Hill is a beautiful, cultivated Southern university town of approximately 18 square miles. The population is over 53,000 counting students. Aside from the very mild weather, one of Chapel Hill's main attractions is the University of North Carolina, the oldest public University in the United States. |

The cornerstone of the first student dormitory, "Old East" was laid in 1793. Much of the town's charm comes from the beautifully preserved homes dating from well before the Civil War. At the same time the Town is up-to-date with several large "green" projects currently under construction. Many people know the University because of the national preeminence of it men's basketball team - The Tar Heels. They have won five NCAA championships including 2009. This year that honor went to the team thirty minutes "down the road" from Chapel Hill, the Duke Blue Devils. This is their fourth NCAA Championship under coach Mike Krzyzewski. The only other coaches to win four or more championships are Kentucky's Adolph Rupp and UCLA's John Wooden. If you happen to like the best college basketball in the land, your going to love living in Chapel Hill. With Duke University and North Carolina State University some 30 minutes from town, the level of education and sophistication of the average citizen is extremely high. So are their demands: Almost one hundred excellent restaurants cater to their tastes. This includes, in the center of Chapel Hill, Bonne Soiree, perhaps the very best restaurant in the entire region. If one's interests include golf, The Chapel Hill Country Club course is midtown, and the incomparable 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Governors Club course is ten minutes away. The superb North Carolina Symphony performs a regular schedule at Memorial Hall in town. Their schedule has included home-town "boy" James Taylor son of a previous Dean of the Medical School. The list of other entertainment and intellectual possibilities is literarily endless. Much of the charm of Chapel Hill comes from the beautifully preserved homes of faculty, staff and townspeople dating from the early 1800's. The center of town is designated as the Franklin-Rosemary Historic District. The homes of note include, among many, the Widow Pucket House 1817, the Hooper-Kyser House 1814 and the Presbyterian Manse 1847. There are some particularly attractive properties on the market now at prices that will not be seen again. You would be well advised to use a local "boy" to separate the "wheat from the chaff." I have lived in Chapel Hill since today's Raleigh Durham International Airport was a single building and they threw your bags out on the tarmac. If you would like to further investigate Chapel Hill as your new home, please contact me at (919) 636-0929 or via e-mail at jerry@kinghomesofchapelhill.com. I will arrange to meet you at the airport and personally give you a tour of our town. After the tour I should have a clear idea of the type of property you are looking for. I will keep you abreast of any interesting market developments, new listings, etc. that might be of particular interest to you. There is never any obligation and you may unsubscribe to my services at any time. |
